Anna was born on July 15, 1935 in Peoria, a daughter of William M. and Emma M. (Scherer) Schmidgall. She married Leo E. “Bill” Scovil on November 6, 1965 at Zion Lutheran Church in Peoria. He preceded her in death on January 19, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and six brothers.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Hazel (Keith) Jones of Peoria; grandchildren, Brad, Chance and Hope Jones, all at home; brothers, Earl “Bud” (Jean) Schmidgall and Robert “Bob” (Janice) Schmidgall, all of Peoria; sisters, Hazel Krakel of Peoria and Linda Nell of Washington, IL.

Anna retired in 2001 as an attendant for National Garages in downtown Peoria. She was formerly employed with Bemis Bag, Belscot Department Store and Maroon Lie Detector, all in Peoria.

Anna enjoyed playing bingo in the Peoria area, especially at the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Council on Hill Street in Peoria, building puzzles and collecting angels and turkeys. She loved listening to country music and Gene Autry was her favorite. Her favorite song was “Silent Night”.

Anna had a deep love for her family, especially her daughter and grandchildren. She loved to play with Brad, Chance and Hope and always attended Brad and Chance’s baseball games. She was “Grandma of the Year”.

Anna will always be remembered for her specialty crafts. She would often make her special crafts and give to family, friends and to anyone that helped her in life. She would make dogs out of golf balls, rocking chairs and wishing wells out of clothes pins and Christmas trees out of coat hangers with green garland and lights.

Anna was a very independent and strong willed woman. She took on the challenge of raising her daughter, Hazel, alone and did an amazing job.
